Description
EPIK: Experienced Professional In Kontrol
The name EPIK stands for Experienced Professional In Kontrol. This new FOX 40 whistle features grip zones along the entire upper surface that provide additional retention during use, so it won't slip out even in the most intense moments.
CMG mouthpiece: protect your teeth
Its mouthpiece (CMG = Cushioned Mouth Grip) perfectly protects your teeth thanks to a thermoplastic material sleeve that provides a better grip and hold in your mouth. During long matches or double sessions, the difference is noticeable.
3 sound chambers, pea-less
Its three pea-less sound chambers are designed to completely drain water when the whistle is submerged for cleaning, and guarantee a powerful, reliable sound that works every single time. Sound output: 115 dB, enough to cut through the noise of a packed arena.
The story behind FOX 40
As you may well know, FOX 40 whistles were invented by international basketball referee Ron Foxcroft. Since then, they have become the world reference in refereeing, game after game.

Frequently asked questions
Which material is better: ABS or metal?
For basketball referees, ABS (technical plastic) models are the standard: hygienic, rust-free, no cold transfer outdoors, and a sharp, directional sound (105–120 dB). The FOX 40 Classic CMG is the FIBA benchmark. Metal whistles are mostly reserved for traditional football referees or occasional use.How many decibels does a referee whistle reach?
Competition whistles typically reach 110-120 dB at 1 m — loud enough to cut through a full arena. The Classic CMG range is calibrated at 115 dB; the Pearl/Mini Pearl range at 100-105 dB for more controlled drills. To protect your hearing, we recommend a short lanyard and short bursts rather than continuous blowing. What is the CMG mouth grip for?
CMG = Cushioned Mouth Grip. The soft rubber sleeve around the mouthpiece, patented by FOX 40. It cushions impact against teeth and lips and improves grip when the ref is sweaty or cold. Worn-out sleeves can be replaced (separate spare). Without CMG, bare plastic hurts teeth under intensive use.How do I clean the whistle after a game?
Rinse the whistle with lukewarm water and a few drops of neutral soap immediately after use (saliva trapped inside the body is the main bacteria source). Lightly brush the CMG sleeve if visibly dirty. Pat dry and leave it open to air mouthpiece-down for a few hours. Do NOT use alcohol or dishwashers — they degrade the ABS and the rubber.
