Description

Four FOX 40 EPIK CMG whistles, each with its own easy-close lanyard. The pack for the club that wants to kit out the whole coaching staff at once, or the academy that needs a whistle per court.

No pea inside. The EPIK's three sound chambers work without a pea: nothing jams when it gets damp and it sounds first time, every time, at 115 dB — enough to cut through a full arena.

CMG mouth grip. The thermoplastic cushion (Cushioned Mouth Grip) protects your teeth and holds better in the mouth. Across a double game day you feel the difference.

Why FOX 40. Invented by international referee Ron Foxcroft, and the world refereeing standard ever since.

Why Basketball Coaching Boards. Hand-picked sideline gear, pack pricing and shipping across Europe.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which material is better: ABS or metal?
For basketball referees, ABS (technical plastic) models are the standard: hygienic, rust-free, no cold transfer outdoors, and a sharp, directional sound (105–120 dB). The FOX 40 Classic CMG is the FIBA benchmark. Metal whistles are mostly reserved for traditional football referees or occasional use.
  • How many decibels does a referee whistle reach?
Competition whistles typically reach 110-120 dB at 1 m — loud enough to cut through a full arena. The Classic CMG range is calibrated at 115 dB; the Pearl/Mini Pearl range at 100-105 dB for more controlled drills. To protect your hearing, we recommend a short lanyard and short bursts rather than continuous blowing.
  • What is the CMG mouth grip for?
CMG = Cushioned Mouth Grip. The soft rubber sleeve around the mouthpiece, patented by FOX 40. It cushions impact against teeth and lips and improves grip when the ref is sweaty or cold. Worn-out sleeves can be replaced (separate spare). Without CMG, bare plastic hurts teeth under intensive use.
  • How do I clean the whistle after a game?
Rinse the whistle with lukewarm water and a few drops of neutral soap immediately after use (saliva trapped inside the body is the main bacteria source). Lightly brush the CMG sleeve if visibly dirty. Pat dry and leave it open to air mouthpiece-down for a few hours. Do NOT use alcohol or dishwashers — they degrade the ABS and the rubber.
